The Convention Centre

These five video loops show different facets of the Convention Centre.

Carpet
This video loop shows the carpet of the new West Building. The striped pattern, when viewed on the road sign, is reminiscent of the geological strata of the Flinders Rangers. Quite apt as the new building's facade is influenced by the colours of the Ranges.

Setting tables
If you look closely (and squint) at this video loop you will see Convention Centre staff busy setting up the tables for a banquet dinner. With military precision the staff, one by one, add different items of dinnerware. One person placing all the knives, another the forks, etcetera.

The green object in the centre of the video is a trolley full of wine glasses. The video shows staff picking up glasses, two at a time, and then holding them to the light to check they are spotlessly clean. Only the clean ones find their way to the table, the others returned for washing.

When guests arrive for dinner, they may give little thought to the setting in front of them, though it is the product of many people and many hours work.

Heading out to morning tea
Conferences always seem to run over time. The one that is the subject of this video was no exception. Whilst the Convention Centre staff need to have morning tea ready to go at the set time, they are often waiting for the session to wrap up.

This video captures the delegates of a conference just as they leave the plenary hall and on their way to morning tea. If you look closely you'll see the blue of their conference lanyards. You will also see a number of them on their phones - catching up with messages after a long morning session.

Waiters
Another behind the scenes look at the Convention Centre, this time of waiters coming and going during the conference morning tea. The video was filmed just behind a black curtain that divided the conference trade show area with the back of house.

Art at the Convention Centre
The Convention Centre features a fine art collection and a series of exhibitions throughout the year. A regular feature here is the work of Emma Hack, who is exhibiting during the West Building launch.

This video loop presents a view of how a visitor to the centre may view Emma Hack's current exhibition.
