About

River  Bank
The West Building launch will feature "River Bank", an innovative art installation by Adelaide artist Aiyudot Khom.

River Bank consists of a series of video loops celebrating the ways we are inspired, entertained and rejuvenated by the places and events of the River Torrens.

The videos are presented on five solar powered road signs. Whilst these road signs have a very four square meter screen, they have a very low resolution of only 48 x 28 pixels. Also, they only can display six different colours. By way of contrast, a modern mobile phone screen, four hundred times smaller in size, has over two thousand times more pixels and two million times more colours.

Despite being so low-res, it is amazing that we can make out images and sometimes even fine detail.

Aiyudot Khom
With the emergence of mobile technology, Adelaide artist Aiyudot Khom has shaped long held interests and experience in visual arts, performing arts, mathematics and computer technology into a collection of software and generative arts that lend themselves to a diverse range of media.

Central themes in this body of work include:
  • The notion of identity, especially in a socially "connected" yet often isolated world
  • Expressing individuality amidst all pervasive norms and stereotypes
  • How we limit ourselves, even when we break free of these social constraints
Recent works by Aiyudot Khom include:
  • Daily - three solar powered road signs presenting a journey through the rituals, routines and revelations that shape our weekday lives. With public art funding Adelaide City Council.
  • (Un)Familiar - a series of short videos presented on the Rundle Lantern as part of the 2014 SALA Festival. Commissioned by the Australian Network for Art & Technology and Adelaide City Council
  • Airing - A collection of 16 techy tea towels presented art the Artisan Cafe, Blackwood, 2014.
